How to open a company in Czechia

The Czech Republic’s standard vehicle is the společnost s ručením omezeným (s.r.o.), a limited-liability company widely used by foreign investors in Central Europe.

Symbolic minimum capital

Since the 2014 reform the minimum capital is just CZK 1 (down from CZK 200,000), making the s.r.o. very accessible. A realistic figure is still advisable for credibility.

Notarial deed and register

The company is formed by notarial deed and entered in the Commercial Register kept by the regional court. Notaries can in many cases register directly, speeding the process.

Trade licence

Most activities require a trade licence (živnostenské oprávnění) from the trade-licensing office before or alongside registration.

For foreign founders

Foreigners can fully own a Czech s.r.o. The notarial step, trade licence, and Czech-language documents reward local help. A verified Czech colleague can prepare the deed and handle the licence and register.

Procedures vary by activity — confirm with admitted Czech counsel.
