Greece’s most popular private vehicle is now the Idiotiki Kefalaiouchiki Etaireia (IKE) — a private company introduced to be simpler and cheaper than the older EPE; larger ventures use the AE.
€1 minimum capital
The IKE can be formed with as little as €1 in capital, which is a big reason for its popularity with founders and small businesses.
One-stop service and GEMI
Incorporation runs through the one-stop service (YMS / e-YMS) and registration in the General Commercial Registry (GEMI). A standard model of articles speeds simple formations.
Tax number
Partners and the company need a Greek tax number (AFM); non-residents typically arrange this and, where required, a tax representative.
For foreign founders
Foreigners can own a Greek IKE, but the AFM and Greek-language steps reward local help. A verified Greek colleague can obtain the AFM and complete the GEMI registration.
