After local counsel completes a task, the client does not need every operational detail. The client needs to understand what happened, what it means, what record exists, and what comes next.
Start with the outcome
Say whether the hearing was attended, filing completed, registry checked, service attempted, or document reviewed. Put the result before the process.
Attach the record
Include the order, receipt, extract, attendance note, or local counsel report where appropriate. The client should see that the task was completed and documented.
Explain next steps
Translate local counsel's report into action: new deadline, decision needed, document to prepare, risk to monitor, or no further action. The lead lawyer owns that synthesis.
A good client update turns delegated local work back into seamless service.
